How do we unpick the barriers to users reporting abuse on social media platforms, especially among highly-targeted and marginalized groups? We analyze the range of features in current reporting flows, discuss tensions between managing the complexity of online abuse and operating at scale, and identify opportunities for setting industry standards in reporting flow design and management. We highlight insights from a year of interviews, user walkthroughs, and direct crisis support case studies from an ongoing research collaboration between PEN America and Meedan.
