Sonny Swe is co-founder and CEO of Frontier Myanmar, a Yangon-based independent media group. He entered the industry in 1996, later co-founding The Myanmar Times. In 2005 Swe was sentenced to 14 years in prison for breaching censorship laws. Released in 2013, he became CEO of Mizzima Media Group, launching Black Knight Media Group, the publisher of Frontier Myanmar. In February 2020, Frontier established a membership programme to deepen relationships and build a community that cares about independent media. Since the recent military coup in Myanmar, Frontier has relocated to Thailand.
