Within the last several years, Trust & Safety news stories have gone from hardly-noticed to front page headlines of national media outlets. The growing usage of social media platforms, e-marketplaces, app stores, and online communication services and the concurrent increase in tech-enabled abuse and misuse of such services has led to increased media attention, often leading to coverage that has influenced platform policies and operations in significant ways. In this light-hearted, quick-witted session, we’ll bring together T&S professionals and a longtime tech journalist to explore ways the media has impacted the T&S space, how coverage has evolved over time, and what the media gets right, wrong, or a little bit of both.
