Getting Here & Around

Airports
Palo Alto is easily accessible by all three of the Bay Area's major airports. San Francisco (SFO) is about 17.2 miles from the Sheraton, Oakland (OAK) is about 27.9 miles from the Sheraton, and San Jose (SJC) is about 16.8 miles from the Sheraton.

Local Transportation
SFO and OAK are both served by BART (subway) with connections to Caltrain. SJC is served by VTA which connects to Caltrain.

Caltrain has two stops in Palo Alto: the Palo Alto station (closest to the Sheraton) and the California Avenue station. More information about Palo Alto local transportation can be found here.

Also in the Palo Alto area, there is the free Stanford Marguerite shuttle bus network, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) buses, local taxis, and rideshare companies such as Uber and Lyft.

Things to do in Palo Alto
If you have time, there are quite a few things you can do around Palo Alto. Here are some suggestions.

  • Hike the Stanford Dish: The Stanford Dish is a landmark radio telescope with scenic paved trail loops. The 3.5-mile trail is a beautiful and popular hike that takes you around the dish.
  • Visit the Stanford campus for a tour of one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. (If you’re attending the Trust & Safety Research Conference, it will be held at Stanford’s Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center.) The campus is surrounded by mountains as well as the East Bay and is home to the famous Rodin Sculpture Garden.
  • Take a day trip to the small coastal town, Half Moon Bay.
  • Check out a concert at the Shoreline Amphitheatre
  • Get an ice cream sundae at the classic Palo Alto Creamery.
